open-eyed love

open-eyed love

A Poem by freelancejouster

"people should fall in love with their eyes closed"

well, Andy Warhol, i think that's wonderful and all
but i have just a few complaints,

how am i suppose to become enamored with his crooked smile
with the one snagletooth that only shows itself
when he's genuinely happy?

and how am i suppose to learn that expression
that means he's in pain
but doesn't want to talk about it
or even feel it
because he's been taught by his miserable father that
"real men don't have emotions."

(bullshit.)

and could you tell me how i can fall in love
without seeing the passion in his eyes,
-- no matter the color,
the set,
or the angle they've been placed--
when he talks about the things and people he loves,
the ideas he has,
and the life he wants to live with me.
