Africa

Africa

A Poem by Ginini Edward GB

The plague we never saw coming

Brought so much pain and suffering

Even now the land still weeps

We are not able to sleep.

The big white monster still clings to its Prize.

Freedom, peace and equality. These are nothing but lies.

They came in their thousands

To take this land.

Our traditions and culture all died.

They came to destroy and plunder.

The big white monster left the land widowed.

Savages they said,

But it was they who came like vultures and caused so much terror

Land forever stained red with the blood of those past

Screams echoing to the very last.

The land will never be the same for it has been orphaned

Its children lost forever to lands where they were not fathered

The big white monster left the land widowed.

But, dream of New Africa lives in the heart of the children

Together with my fellow brethren

I hope and pray that Africa like the phoenix rises from the ashes of destruction.

I think you did a good job with this. Its a real tough one as it being based on true facts in which a whole peoples whole way of being was torn up and trashed as though it meant nothing is..well as you say...it was like a plague coming and the destruction is still felt now. You expressed yourself well.
