Woman's Self Worth

Woman's Self Worth

A Poem by Tara-Rist

pull the wool over our eyes
and let us think we're God's gift to man
but holding us high and treating us well
was never your idea or plan
washed up and wasted bodies
we once were pure and your queens
but we slipped in your eyes and our too
now defiance and quick trick are what you see
we have great things we could give
like our time or love and devotion
children and confidence and with to grow old
now tattered by drama and mass comotion
we binge and purge to make ourselves thin
give up our sex for attention, money or drugs
wasting away on televisions images
to get with a rough neck, good ole' boy or thug
interested not in five years down the road
but who pays the next bill or feeds kids
appreciation for ourselves we let go
our body on pedastel for highest bid
or we feel inferior with curves and thick hips
that we starve ourselves, purge away beauty
so what respect for us would you have?
even if our men took on a man's duty
use your good nature for a strong basis
we lie and we cheat behind closed doors
become drama queens and defy your wishes
and stand in awe when you use the word 'w***e'
our hearts sink when you pop in the porn
feeling unworthy already, now we feel unpretty
so we turn away and hide for shame and guilt
because our body's aren't perfect, our sex less raw and gritty
with the last thing we own, we give
standing on a corner, waiting for a car to pull near
selling our sex to every average joe with cash
for ourselves and understanding of our real worth unclear
we come against each other as females
backstabbing and lying to see another woman go down
in flames and redundant the circle it grows
till we've stomped our damn selves into the ground
we'll live with a man who batters
his hands leave our bodies black and blue
and when our face is enveloped by tears
shrug it away to one simple "I Love You"
what do "we" want as females united?
we've cut ties and trust with each other as strong
to try for top, end up on bottom most often
instead of trusting, steady arms to which we belong
we claw at each others throats for attention
give the one special thing like it's there for a job
some of us die daily for lack of minerals, nutrition
and some give up, tv addicted, food hungry slobs
the woman was God's gift to the man
straight from his ribs to be his love and companion
strength as mothers and pride as his wife
but we let this legacy rip holes until we are done
figures unlike any other earthly creature
hips, legs, thighs and breasts make us special beyond compare
yet we hide in shame and hate how we're built
afraid to love ourselves and cherish our greatness to dare
we are woman, and I'll pridefully say
that I won't be brought down to self loath
,when I control how I'm treated and feel,
or continue to harm myself with such low blows
I am strong by nature and beautiful always
in heartache or tragedy, in joy and in peace
whe she's against me when my head is held high
I won't be some other woman's disease
I will lift them up and show them self worth
despite their pasts or decisions or their life's road
so a chain will affect how we treat one another
before we decend in humanity with unhealthy loads
