A Sad Man

A Sad Man

A Poem by Monica Garcia
"

Sometimes genetics can be a pain in the a*s...

"

Dear Sad Man,

I can hear you through the thin, fragile walls.

Sinful sobs, silence, soon enough

snores

Ending another day

that you never wanted anyway.

I’ll match my breath with yours tonight,

The synchrony will be our theme song, our lullaby.

Inhales and exhales begging to cease

for you and for me.

You don’t look at me

because looking at me would be like looking at yourself:

A sick torturous mirror of memories.

Look at me you pathetic creature

come out of hiding and be a man

the man

that birthed me hardly raising me

rather pushing me deeper into the inevitable hell

The sickness flows through you like wine at The Last Supper.

And you quench my thirst over and over again you sick b*****d.

Lie in the darkness tonight

drunk off of the blood of Christ.

We will stagger into each other’s arms

deep in this purple twilight

Nightmare

I will follow your footsteps all the way to hell

and Sad Man,

I will meet you there…

yes, dad

I will certainly meet you there.

Identity is so important and this one shows it. Very complex and simple at the same time.

an angry poem that clearly expresses your relationship with your father I feel unsure what you intended to accomplish with this poem there is a sorrow here for which you see no resolution or redemption, The anger is stagnant I think your poem would be stronger if it went beyond just being angry

A dark and at times shocking read, but not of all what we write, or indeed live is pretty. I really like how the overall piece is constructed. From the first line to the last, it slowly builds in pace and in anger, while showing that genetics marked you with a bad deal of the cards before you had a chance. A very open, hones and for yourself a raw emotional rollercoaster of what makes you who you are. Really well written. Thank you for sharing.

A very sad and honest poem. It is sad we can follow our parent footsteps.
"yes, dad
I will certainly meet you there."
I do understand the poem. I believe I may meet my father in hell one day. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.

I love the way you see the words as being an escape

Interesting one. Though I was almost a tiny little bit shocked how it turned into such a dark piece by the last lines. I didn't expect that. Though "surprising", readers is a good thing, I think. I also think you chose your words carefully. Emotional, twisted.

The pain in your words is quite palpable and this not only takes literacy skill to convey but courage as well!

Top write, powerful and poignant !
