Duality

I am thankful for the darkness that surrounds me;

engulfing me like blankets that bring me shade from the sun.

Eyes closed in a theatrical encore of shadows.

I am thankful for the Yin that curls its cold body around my Yang

and brings it balance before it boils over.

I am thankful for a harsh Winter that ends Fall,

ceasing colors to exist.

A blank canvas smeared with a stormy gray.

With these eyes shut tight

I feel the colors bleed through my soul

like lush flowers plaguing gardens in the Spring.

I feel the warmth of the sun swallow me

like spun sugar

and the snow begins to melt at my feet.

The light strobes against the sides of the dark tunnel

that I dance through,

stretching beams like bubble gum.

As I open my eyes it is then that I realize:

without darkness there is no light.

So bury me, in hopes that I might see the heavens…

Bury me.

So that I might see the heavens.

Monica this was a very interesting poem to me. I liked how you were able to connect contrasts with one another so well. this was a good learning peice for me as well. I write mostly nature stuff and am intrigued by other types that I've not done. thankyou so much!

This is beautifully written on a subject that usually brings negativity. I love the fact that as you said so eloquently, without night, there would be no day and without dark, how would we know what is light. Winter has always been a time of warm and rich colours for me. Being from a cold country I appreciate what we have when it is no longer there and look forward to the next change in seasons spin, spring.
Excellent write.
