Sex-E
A Poem by Mari' Emeraude
'Twas at the home of Governors
with pink champagne in hand
I asked them all to take their chairs
still restless, I did stand
I began to speak on modern times
and Pinner's mind to tax
and laughing as they sipped their wines
I felt the more relaxed
As caviar was ushered in
no one the least perplexed
still rattling on about our age
until I mentioned sex
The chandeliers began to shake
the butlers 'loosed their ties
what in the world was happening?
why all the constant sighs?
I merely mentioned the metaphor
to stress the women quaint
when Mr. Belaire
dropped his cigar,
the ladies began to faint
No need to get hysterical
I can explain you see
Sex is but the small word SIX
except you use an "e"

Cunning. Brillant. Politely provoking, without avoiding to touch 'where it hurts'.
This poem is a good example of how to ridicule feature of western society and at the same time stress the point on an important matter. So you did it: you dared touching THAT subject. THE subject. But the point is not the subject itself (sex), but the reactions it provokes into a bunch of 'good society members': someone gasps, someone else loses the composure, someone even faints. Of course this scene clatters terribly in comparison with the previous one, when people politely smiled and sipped their expensive drinks.
The word that comes now in my mind is 'satyricom': exaggerate the situation in order to bring a smile, maybe a laugh, but mainly plant an idea into your reader mind. And for me the question is: is it really so frightening the topic of the conversation? Of course, not.
Great conclusion: a quick deviation from the expected outcome. Funny and yet smart.
Good poem.
PS. I don't linger on the style, since you mentioned you wrote the poem at age of 16, so I assume it as a experimental.

I guess it was a humorous exaggeration on the perceptions of the idea of sex or even the utterance of the word in some " upper crust elitist" society.
( kind of how my mom reacts if I say "damn"!) ;)
