A Poem by G. K. Bostic

Throat tightened with pain

Separation’s agony

Chokes the heart and mind

Phone call from my son, John, in Afghanistan....I hang up, cry, write something to alleviate the sadness.

Such a moment in time when a heart constricts and that special pain kicks in, a hollow pain, a shard through the centre of your very being, and the question why!
Why so many die for so few, they say for freedom, and God is on our side, I thought Jesus said we were to love our enemies, I wish your son was home. A short but exquisite poem

I feel for you and All the families of this world who have to endure this tragic time of war and the unjust nature of society and this world...all we can do is pray that God will see us through...

Your few words speak loudly and clearly, and I'm sure every imaginable thought and feeling in your well-expressed poem was felt immensely by your proud son, as well, when he placed that privileged call to you. I, too, wish and pray for the safe return to your home of your son, John. : )

Gloria this is good work. Sharp and painful as a knife thrust! Read some of the vile pages on WC that paddle over this subject. You said more in 3 lines than they do in three thousand. Onward Mrs. Bostic,

My son is in Iraq...I get it. I cry too. A few words and you've said it all.

You captured that emotion so well in just three lines. It made me want to tear up. I have friends in Afghanistan. It's so hard.

A mother's yearning for the safety of her child stays with her forever...whether they live near or far away.
I empathy with your special pain here...may you be comforted in the knowledge that our children are watched over by a God who loves them even more dearly
than we do :)
A sad but splendid haiku !
