Lemon Fields

Lemon Fields

A Poem by G. K. Bostic

While sitting on a hilltop all alone,

I gaze on lemon fields of loveliness,

And memory sweeps back in time to see

Chronology of journey's path repressed.

I count the words they drilled into my head,

The proof of my stupidity impressed...

My self-esteem fell lower 'til I left

And walked through years in silent loneliness.

Yet life has changed since I discovered me.

At times I still fight demons who depress,

But now the fight between the dark and light

Is won by faith and love of self possessed.

New memories are being made in love,

And peace and comfort are my welcome guests

While sitting on my hilltop all alone

Enjoying lemon fields of loveliness.

lemon fields of loveliness- a wonderful phrase --I love it..And then how you could sit and look back , smile at your mistakes, rue over missed chances and think over lost happiness and glory. The poem ultimately goes over to the victory of positivity over all dark ideas..Its a self realization..

There are other great lines
"Chronology of journey's path repressed."
"The proof of my stupidity impressed"
"And peace and comfort are my welcome guests "

Great job done in 16 line poems..I really am curious what we could do 16 lines..
Recently, I am experimenting with some 5 poems and I have to say , the shorter poems have that unmistakable punch..
Well Done !!

Very nice!!! I'm glad you decided to publish (if this is the one you meant haha) - strong solid structure, subtle rhymes - an air of light heartedness - great poem!!!! The fourth stanza is my favourite !!
