Adrift Amidst The Nighttide

Adrift Amidst The Nighttide

A Poem by G. Stranger
"

Inspired by my recent failure with a beautiful, hopelessly lost creature.

"
Silence had taken the night by storm, and my mind had taken an extended leave of absence.
Truthfully, I couldn't make out the stars in the sky for the the grip of Madness on my sight.
Or maybe that was just the acid working it's magic on my thoughts.

I fought so hard to keep you here.
Despite myself, despite the fear.
Despite my efforts, you're not here.
Maybe you never were.

It's hard to say from where I stand, and harder to swallow the truth of the matter.
All I wanted was to hold your hand, and walk with you, happily-ever-after.
But I don't live in a land of make-believe, and I've found no evidence of the rapture.
You told me you don't need a man.
Behind your eyes, I saw the laughter.

If only I could keep my mind from spinning backwards.

Author's Note

G. Stranger
This is more or less the first piece of writing I've done in quite some time, so I hope you'll pardon the brevity of it. More to come, not necessarily for this piece, though.
