Ready for Takeoff

A Poem by Emily
"

This is a poem I wrote for a friend. He is a senior about to graduate in a month, and I wanted to write a short piece about the bittersweet and confusion of finishing high school without being cliche.

"
The magpie robin waits
Amidst the leaves of
The potat tree,
Cautiously toddling
Along its branches like
A tightrope walker,
Walking a very thin line that
Teeters between the brink
Of past and future,
The present's headwind
blowing full-force
Against his outstretched wings
As he holds them out for
Balance.
