Hiccups

Hiccups

A Poem by geminate

The air tonight feels like i should be meeting an old friend for a drink or a coffee

The melody that plays and the words that are sang feels like i felt so distantly

The noises from being idle for too long echo throughout me, longing for a sip

Who would i meet, where would we go….

The bakery, down town, at 2 am for fresh muffins and rolls

Or maybe the pub that the 30 somethings hang out with poorly live celtic jams

The park down the street, twirling beneath the street lamps

Or maybe outside on your porch with a fire for light

But who……

Would it be you the one with phoenix tattoo?

Or would it be you the one with the hair?

You, the one with moonlit skin and delicate hands?

Or would it not be an old friend at all?

Someone new

New in all the good familiar and even the obscure ways

Maybe you will make me laugh until i get the hiccups..

Or maybe you call me on my bullshit, but kiss me afterward.

Maybe we hold hands on the first date and kiss on the second

Or maybe we dance, like our grandparents used to do…..

Yes, someone new, but so familiar its like having the time of your life with that old friend…..
