The Spider and the Fly

The Spider and the Fly

A Poem by Gerry Legister
"

nature can be lovely when we examine the lives of little creatures

"

A minute creature lifts its tiny wings to fly
And Scuttles geographically through the air,
Ambiguous kings below looking for a prey
Spread a trap and linger near the magic snare.

Shroud uniform encased in the web of deceit
Flutter and spun on the run lose adrenaline,
Feet digging deeper trying to make hasty retreat
A clumsy stunt but the armored agony just began.

It will go on all night and just before daylight
Came a creeping spider with meditative stance,
From the lurking trance gives out a terrible fright,
Make victim feel ill at ease and dare not advance.

A fly that was dry is caught in a sticky cobweb
The fate that waits is to be eaten like a flake,
Standing on peg legs and stooping down to beg,
The cool curled fangs decided it was too late.

Immortal eyes in nippy flare from the spider’s lair
Ready to suck the juicy parts till they are dry,
Strategy reel up in gravity drooping down a ladder,
Sprawl on silken thread crunch up and carried away.

He would rather fight and lose and be glad to die,
Than to be wrapped up tight in a garden jacket,
And be taken on parade slowly pass another fly
To the oblivion lodges in the prettiest hotel suite.
