Who Was I?

Who Was I?

A Poem by gorillarock
"

An introspective piece on the act of writing

"
Black ink flows from nib to parchment
Patterns trail as motion carries the pen
A system of scribbles, words form
Capturing all that can be said
A moment of life and a thought preserved
To be owned, shared, recalled, and forgotten
To be read now, later, and before
To express ones self for all or none
To re-live the self of that moment
... and then we find a page forgotten ...
I look back at the words from my hand, I ask
Who was I?
Familiar words and tempo strike the eye, I ask
Who was I?
My heart pounds from the memories so vivid, and yet I still ask
Who was I?

This person is not the same as I
Spoken in ways I would not echo
With hate, love, light and darkness. I disagree
This person is me? This person is me?
... but I am not this person ...
I am the one who released his hate
I am the one who nourished his heart
I am the one who harnessed his light
and used it to evict his darkness
So no, I am not this person I was
But I know this was my self...
... and now I capture who I am
With these words I write are for all to read
Scribbled to me alone
To read now, then later
and from then, before
My own work, words, and heart
A person I forgot I was
Who was I?

Author's Note

gorillarock
It's been two years since I last wrote and put it out in the world. This is the evenings poem that follows some review of my older works. I have one issue with this piece, but will present to you anyway as an incomplete work! After all, it's the happy little accidents that make a painting special :)

From a general perspective, I think this is flawless. The theme of locking in our identity through time is very well done.

Personally, I would look to reduce the length. However, I am a type of person who loves short, sweet, and strong writing. Nonetheless, I am impressed.
