war.

war.

A Poem by H.M
"

a war between the heart and mind.

"
my heart loves so eloquently,
but my brain sabotages it instantly.

i’ll love a person so deeply that i’ll lose myself within them.
i begin to overthink the smallest of things.

sabotage came to play.

“what are we?”, “why do you love me?”, “i’m not ready.”
the self-sabotage from my brain eats away at my heart.

“take it slow.”, “you’re their world.”, “it’s new, get used to it.”
the heart pleads to the brain.

“don’t let them in, they will hurt us.” the brain screeched.
“oh, they’d suffer for eternity to keep us safe.” the heart sang.

but, what if neither of you are right?

brain, why do you think of every possible negative outcome?
why do you let me live that memory?
to grieve and mourn a fallacy?

heart, why do you become a doormat to people who enter our life?
do you have any idea what you’re doing?
why don’t you have more self-respect?

i cannot love someone and be cautious of harm in harmony.

i’m in a war.
a war between my heart and mind,
and it will never cease.
