i am not good at irony, nor sarcasm :{ its pretty well put to use in your poem "Happy Mother's Day" ... so tragic and deeply emotive to read .. i, personally, am very fortunate to have had an ordinary very middle class home ... with loving and supportive parents ... i can only imagine ...life is far too complex and challenging as it is ... abuse ... bullying ... cycles of anger so many times turned in :( as human beings we loose so much to things like that ... really appreciate you sharing this very honest, straight forward poem ... it says it all in just 9 lines ... the "xx" kisses for mother are killer :(((((( no hint for me in reading to change anything .... powerful stuff gram!

take comfort in knowing that fact gram she is always with you more so at night.
That's the trouble with Mother's Day, not everyone can celebrate it. Whilst most mums are decent and loving, you get the others too. There are plenty out there who don't give a damn about their kids. Yes, these are the words of a survivor without doubt.

Thanks, Chris, but you have got it backwards, Mum was the loving caring soul, Dad was the b*****d,

wow, yes, abuse in the home, getting bullied...and then sweet revenge...the survivor is formed at an early age, and the abused and bullied return the favor...i like the topsy-turvy nature of this.
and really like the reference to James Cagney in White Heat.

we are all angels with dirty faces, and no, not the clash song, lol,
Caged In An Animal's Mind
Caged in an animal's mind;
No wish to be more or else
Than I am; a smile and a grief
Of breath that thinks with its blood,
Yet straining despite; unsure
In my stir .. more..
