Down Time

Down Time

A Poem by gram linski

The Duvet ensnares me
Sweat
drips and clings
Cotton grabs and chokes the
                                       dream,
Wrestling limbs free
from phantom chains
Tossing, turning, entwining,
Lapsing,
Collapsing, in and out of,
Dread, fear, almost sleep,
A token reprisal
From the sleep walkers blues
But conscious  of every twitch
and moan
A torment of emotions
Unfolding through the night
Left side
Right side
Neither seem to fit
A bed of broken boulders
On a mattress of mind
Mistaking the pea for me,
Download the damage
and change the sheets,
                             Goodnight.

I can relate to these lines. I am not a good sleeper either. This is what you call a living nightmare which torments the soul and mind to distraction. When you don't sleep, all those thoughts you have, become grossly exaggerated. When morning breaks, you are truly broken. It's good to see you posting again. I felt exhausted after reading your descriptive lines.

Sleep struggles are something I am familiar with. Nodding my head in agreement and empathy as I read your struggles. Eventually you go down but only to wake up only a short time later to go to work.

unperfectly slept, thanks Edie, to the writers that sleep forgot,
i have had little "Goodnight" lately...been tossin' and turnin'....and thinking too much....
i finally just wear out...and could sleep standing up.
i don't have a duvet...but sure related to this one.
I like, the last three lines, especially.

Love the play on words. Down as in feathers. I so relate to this one. We put the one tog duvet on last week I am am still kicking it into touch! Loved this one as it is seemingly straightforward for you! When I saw the line 'A bed of broken boulders' I immediately wanted it to be 'A bed of broken bones'. And the reference to 'The Princess and the Pea', very apt!
