The Ghost of Future Past

The Ghost of Future Past

A Poem by gram linski

the ghost of future past
returned to reclaim it's youth
mis - spent in Iron lung harmony
and phantom cotton sheets
bleeding survival of the oil - slickest
smashing the chandelier of truth
crystal ice in the Kristallnacht

propositions based on lies and understanding
the foolish absurdity in swinging
                                light bulbs
dancing shadows               whip - like flex
                  darkness jumps                absent light

the mirror screams of history
of maladjusted teeth biting
                                 nothing but sky

     -     receding   and ...          ceding     -

the ghost of future past
thinking unravelling universe
in the anguished howl of a
new born old soul a
rayban reflection of a
burning horizon in a
refracted infant's eye
the spat out broken promises
of yesterday's blues
rictus grin grin grinning
absorbing the subtlety of fools
sucking sunlight through damaged drainpipe straws

the arctic shiver of bold memory
                                 bone
a malignant wind
disturbing slumbered dreams

     petrified thought   -

This is so expressive and such wonderful use of language, of metaphor, of rhythmic alliteration.
And it makes me ponder...if most of us had it to do over again, would we really learn from our mistakes?
Or would we just repeat what we did, taking the same chances with the reckless abandon of youth.

Too many images and references in this one to settle on a single meaning. What comes through is a picture of a dystopia created by bad decisions and bad faith. I just hope I'm not at home when the Ghost of FP comes calling.
