Heart beat

Heart beat

A Poem by Rachel DeHart

My heart is beating like thunder

behind my ribs.

Breaking the cold empty chamber

I had assigned it to. Because over the past

few weeks, since my world ended

when you cried and said you

                                couldn’t do it.

I had closed down my heart.

Told myself that it didn’t feel like

acid in my veins when I thought

of you.

But I am a

                                                                liar.
