Yellow Brick

Yellow Brick

A Poem by Rachel DeHart

Turn back now.

You’re about to follow me down the rabbit hole.

believe me, the yellow brick road

it doesn’t always go where you want it to go.

my survival instincts

were wired wrong,

something’s off kilter,

but I’m not about to try to

fix it.

I’d like to let you know, there never was a way to

save me.

So guilt isn’t the right response here.

It was always out of your hands,

you are not blood stained,

do not use this as something to mold another martyr after.

Nothing that happened here

was done to save anyone

[other than myself.]

In no one else’s name did I

test the limits of blood loss and

starvation. So do not try to take this

from me. If I only get

credit for one thing, let it

be my own destruction.

i really liked that line, and the whole piece was written pretty well. Its funny you mentioned the rabbit hole in this piece,...i just wrote something referring to the bottle with the tag 'drink me" on it from alice in wonderland.

I like this one a lot. I especially liked the ending
" If I only get

credit for one thing, let it

be my own destruction."
It was fitting with the theme of it. Good one.
