Of Life

Of Life

A Poem by grey.eyes

oh how i wonder what you'll think.
from abandoned friendships to
forgotten promises. I swear i didn't
mean to break them, i was young
and naive when i made them.
how long ago the time seems to be
when all at once we were laughing
on top the hills watching the freeway
buzz quickly back and forth because
people seem to have somewhere to be.
now instead of looking for bugs to
feed our temporary pet toads, we
are looking for jobs, and don't have
as good a time or luck on our quest.
and suddenly before we know it we've
become one of those fast cars that seem to
have somewhere to be, when really
we're just spending our paychecks,
buying our time, trying to find a purpose.

great commentary on what life does to us. we long for the carefree freedom & innocence of childhood and a chance to be who we are rather than the forced drudgery of adulthood. great write. very philosophical. i love it. :)

"Each second we live is a new and unique moment of the universe, a moment that will never be again And what do we teach our children? We teach them that two and two make four, and that Paris is the capital of France. When will we also teach them what they are? We should say to each of them: Do you know what you are? You are a marvel. You are unique." - Thoreau
