When You Sing

When You Sing

A Poem by Bruce Bray

Squandered moments I spent
Caught up in my own life
The signs were there I did not see
Reaching out in your pain
You tried to warn me
But you could not find the words
Silence a deception
Invisible as you were
--
The the day your life would end
Unraveling before me then
I could not face the truth
Your time was near an end
--
When you sing I die
Breathing in the pain you feel inside
When you sing I cry
Like the voices in the heavens have arrived
--
Now your life has come and gone
I sit alone without your love
Grant my wish and take me away
To earth and soil I beg for
Without love there is hate
Anger boils and destroys my soul
Searching for meaning in your demise
Find no solace, no faith, just lies
--
Continue on my journey then
Sitting still upon my blackened road
Without direction, lost my way
No care, no love, no fight
--
When you sing I die
Breathing in the pain you feel inside
When you sing I cry
Like the voices in the heavens have arrived
