You Say

You Say

A Poem by Hannah's Writing

i.

That you can see the light in me

Shining through like a thousand stars amongst

The reflection of the moon in the ocean waves

The careless ripples softly caressing the horizon

As the sun sets and turns the sky to cotton candy

A sweetness so brilliant it stings like lightning

The shade of deep buttery gold hidden in the Earth

Among the dirt and pebbles where history was made

Over time collecting unwritten stories, unshared laughter

Happy sighs, passionate words, content smiles

ii.

That you can hear the sweetness in my voice

As clear as a chorus of angels living amongst the clouds

When it rains, the tiny tears of heaven seep out like honey

As mesmerizing as a siren that taunts her sailor

And pulls him under the blanket of her loving ocean

The warm, salty water seeping into his veins

Devouring him from the inside out silently, gently

iii.

That I feel like paint to the touch

That I could create a masterpiece with the stroke of a breath

Covering your blank canvas with splashes of color

Vibrant, rusty orange and a cool, gray lavender

A blue that the sky couldn’t possibly compete with

And an iridescent aquamarine that could cover the planet

Blinding you, until the peaceful white that once stood

Fades into a mess, and the only color you see is rainbow

Turning into the shade of epiphany, hope, joy

iv.

That I smell like an endless field of flowers

As the warm breeze tickles my face

And the saccharine nectar of winter jasmine drips

From the tall willow above us, with flowers as pink

As our cheeks and as sweet as the song of the canary

Serendipity carried by the petrichor of creosote bushes

And the softness of your hand in mine

v.

That you always imagined my soul to taste like

The silken flutter of a butterfly’s wings against

The outline of a crescent moon at midnight

A beautiful, imperfect perfection, an aroma of

Tranquil and fulfilled whispers that vibrate

Throughout my whole being

Until it becomes all I can sense, all I can hear

...that you love me.
