Is that type of development sustainable

Is that type of development sustainable or even feasible in terms of business? The concept of Diablo exists today because of the long-running phase of having Titan evolving, refining it and experiencing the ups and valleys associated with developing. The final product, many years later, is a game with an impressive and wide presence. But are you able to maintain the same game for every project?

I don't know that we at Blizzard have a choice other than to proceed this way. I don't know that there's another option for Blizzard. We truly believe that the team leadership has faith and an idea for an idea that they believe is a great idea. It's a bottom-up method of working.

Blizzard does not have a past of Mike [Morhaime], or me or another in the top position declaring, "Hey, Blizzard should start making, insert type of game." That's not the way Blizzard operates. How it works is an entire team of developers who are truly passionate about an idea or particular genre are given space to create and iterate and then deliver something we believe can be fantastic. That's the way it's always been and it's the way it's going today.

I'm trying to come up with the best way to approach this without unnecessary vilifying Activision. My question is, are the business realities of the present, as they are, and how do you relate to its parent business, Activision, such that you are able to continue to operate that way?

Is Blizzard autonomous enough to say that 'We don't think this idea's good, therefore we're going to end it, and we're going to return to the sketch board ... you may not have another game from us in five, ten or whatever it could be?'
