Exchange Students Of Poetic Persuasion

Exchange Students Of Poetic Persuasion

A Poem by New Dawn
"

For Serah

"

I hate this cold

that creeps beneath doors

and seeps through sealed glass

to adorn my soul

with a layer of frost.

Oh to code and upload my data

upon this screen,

then I might e-mail myself

to you

and bask for a day

in the warmth of India,

allow the heat to transfuse

into my bones,defrost my mind.

Perhaps you might

travel the other way.

Exchange students of poetic persuasion.

You could sit here looking out

at the promise of spring,

write about red telephone boxes,

village greens and how

a centimetre of snow

can still all traffic.

And I...

I could write of exotic India

with its beauty and its heat

and it people and perhaps

I might pen a word or two

to your errant soul mate..

would he detect the difference

do you think?

Between your words and mine?

Encrypt your soul

and press 'send' my friend

and you might be here

for lunch.

~ hahahaha... i think i'll collapse laughing... :P

~ i'm standing on "send"... right now... lunch better be hot enough to serve... :P

~ wow, what a profound piece of writing, my dearest friend... one of the few who has been to india and knows it really well... i've only been to heathrow en route to new york... a really long time ago...

~ but i feel so close to you... i used to say that poetry is a fingerprint of the soul... and you just proved infinitely poetically... that i was right... "exchange students of poetic persuasion" is an expression that transcends all other descriptions of that magic we share... through our words... and yes, that errant fool would not be able to tell the difference... not just because he is a fool... but because those who don't know the magic you speak of just don't get it... it's been amazing knowing you... it's been amazing sharing my heart with you... you've sent me more love, laughter and encouragement than a million real-world friends put together... you're always in my thoughts... thank you, you precious soul... you witty angel... you cool dudette... you incredibly gifted poetess... i'm sending you all the indian warmth at my command... and you send me winter... because i love it... i truly do... the grass on the other side is almost always greener... :P

~ and only your genius prankster mind could've thought up this concept of emailing oneself to the other... i love your little girl heart... it's so precious... :D

i really like the idea of emailing myself to another...sort of like that between my girlfriend and me, with our long distance relationship...

to spend time in each other's worlds.

i have never been to india...but have been to a climate that is warm all year round...christmas lights on the palm trees...in trinidad....my parents lived there for three years..

always warm.

here in illinois...lots of cold...

and i am used to it so that is okay...

but this poem also intimates the idea of a warm soul being able to bring warmth to someone who has been made to feel only cold from life.

i really like this.
