The Little Lark

The Little Lark

A Poem by Isaac Canton

Covered in Ivy and dew,
The little lark sits and cries,
For her love has stole away,
Caged for human eyes to play.

Brave faced she struggles on,
And pulls her oaken heart along,
She sings so lonely in the rain,
And wretched stars that look the same.

She puts on her ocean blues,
Just to feel alive,
And puts up her tattered sails,
Envious of the Songbird who dives.
