Magdalena

The name might sound like a woman dressed in black

whose job is to plant new perplexing clues in a crime scene

or to steer away the depressed detective from his biggest case

but it’s not

Just a cheap motel in the middle of nowhere

 

Nothing good on the magic box of entertainment

only bullshit shows and advertisements

Where’s Pink Panther when I needed him?

 

Threw the plastic-covered remote

Walked out the door

Stood on the balcony

with a cup of black liquid sent by God

from the most serene part of Elysium

 

As the silence hit me like a pillow sledgehammer

I heard two voices from downstairs

A father and a son

 

The boy asked his old man why the planet he’s living in

is swarmed with fools

The father replied with a slight chuckle

“There are no fools on Earth, son

it’s just some people choose to live in darkness

hoping to find the light”

 

I was an acrophobic, I still am

and what I overheard dragged me onto a ferris wheel

 

There are no fools on Earth

but, buddy, I’m one of those people on the second part
