Burning Homes in Baltimore

Burning Homes in Baltimore

A Poem by harlem_knight

Ashes to ashes
Dust to dust
From dusk till dawn
We die, we hush

The world watches
And so does God
Who would of known
life should be this hard

Ashes to ashes
And dust to dust
Another dead man
Is never enough

Chained up with cuffs
And tied to hope
Our body’s hang hung
With endless rope

Ashes to ashes
Dust to dust
Flames scorch the sky
Enough is enough

Jim crow passed on
The teachings to all
This land of the free
To our knees we fall

But not in prayer
We already tried
Blood shall spill
The wronged shall be right

Ashes to ashes
Dust to dust
Our cities are chard
And so are our hearts

Now you burn.
Now you burn.

Life is here..in an essence known to the history of many crying silence voices..DEEPER than the Atlantic

This is so good, the repetition, the political force, the emotional delivery - all perfect really good x

Wow this is a very strong piece, the words cry out, but the one you've made repeat hammer home to the soul. We are but flesh, born from ash and so we shall return to it. Beautiful, really.

thank you!
Great work, you have expressed your meanings and feelings deeply in your words. It is a sad world we wake to face each day, but hopefuly someday soon these situations will only be a sad memory from our past.

I love the repetition - and just as your last poem was, it's so smooth and polished, not a word out of place. I can't wait to see what else you'll post.
Thank you for sharing.
