Arson

A Poem by harlem_knight

How silly of you
To look into the eyes of this fire and feel as if it would douse your own
To walk barefoot in hell and resent your charred toes
The ones I would rub when your days were longer than your patience
Before we knew that this magic had an expiration date
How silly of you to expect me to be more than human
As if you don't know me in my totality
As if our palms don't show the same fait.
As if I was even capable of being whoever you wanted me to be
I'm no chameleon
And your no victim
You keep telling me our time is ticking ignoring the fact that love isn't bound by man made structures or confined to here and now.
I loved you where there was no sound and found God inside your most deranged eyes.
Baptized you in power even while you cursed my very existence.
How telling that you would rather me gravel on bended knees than to exalt you on my feet
We set fire to tear drops together.
We kept warm through our rage.
Singed tongues with our words and learned that even in destruction, there is beauty.
How silly of you to forget.
