Showered In Stale Wetness

Showered In Stale Wetness

A Poem by Travis Lawrence

The four noble truths: suffering exists, the cause of all suffering is desire, to eliminate suffering one must eliminate desire, and to eliminate desire one must follow the Noble Eightfold Path. Capitalistic cultures such as mine don't understand this, hence the rampant commercialism almost forcing desire upon us. We must look within ourselves for our own salvation, not within the pursuit of comfort through material goods. This is my current plight, but at least this time I am much more aware of the place I should be to remain at peace.

Showered In Stale Wetness

desire sleeps wet in heavy clothes

deeper than skin brushed tightly

weighed like two hundred paper stacks

cut matter spread apart in spaces

let light in black absent places

formed like sun rise sky

swells darkness back to pasts

risen when day rays slept

bring down helpless needs

to blind level eyes more focused

on breathing out suffered living

anxious smoke spread thinner

we cause these cravings

crumpled worry in tight aches

summoned from consumers

relentlessly showered in stale wetness

manipulating massive greed

minding and reminding phony rapture

like drilled ads in false conscious

minds known only to suffer

sweep us under our own waves

vibrating off key to eternity

time less than harmony

stands below our wealth

wow. amazing i love it.
You conveyed a really important message in this poem about how the world is forcing all these images and ideas into us that we don't necessarily need and that true happiness is found within ourselves. Love the words you used here, brilliant. Can't wait to read more!
