Engines

Engines

A Poem by Hunter Hoburg

 Here, the engine of desire:

Gears twisting turning

Pumping lust through veins

Secreting filthy exhaust.

Pushing the soul into

Desperation.

Here, the engine of deprivation:

Churning and waiting

Wheezing, hiccupping to the

Tired rhythm of dreaming.

Driving the sorry soul to

Slumber, surrender.

Here, the engine of destruction:

Devouring all who try

To qualm the madness

The warpath on which it roils.

There was a warning;

There was a time to run;

But the engine cuts down,

Swallows up,

Ends.

Here, the engine of sleep.

I love the first stanza, and the progression throughout the entire poem. I enjoy how simple the very last line it, yet it manages to tie the entire poem together, and still provides a satisfying ending.

the metaphor used can be interpreted at ones will... desire,deprivation,destruction,sleep...did you wish to mean life as a whole,,,the tireless journey and the final end...whatever it was,I enjoyed this one:)

The metaphorical ideas within the imagery of the engine, has several meanings for me. My perception of this, is that all things come to an end. Very thought provoking. Nice write.
