Starhill

Starhill

A Poem by H.L. Cerveise
"

This is one I wrote over 30 plus years ago. It was either the first or the only survivor of the "reboot" I was having at that time. It was the birth of multi-meaning, anti-grammatical, free style.

"

Starhill

Tall and proud in all her mystic knowledge,

From her lofty height, she surveys all of Earth.

Most ignore her and all she works for.

However, some are her children.

She teaches and protects her own.

Gently, she casts her children to the far reaches of the universe.

While gone from her, they toil and remain faithfully loyal.

Patiently, she awaits the return of her royal children.

Some return to her waiting arms.

However, others go to unbound worlds of infinity.

Despite her tears, they never return.

In the presence of the infinite lost is the finite,

Is her only sigh as she faithfully continues her appointed task.

Crying for those lost and rejoicing for those returned.

Surrounded by apathy she remains courageous.

The few that are hers stare steadfastly upward.

Eagerly, they await their turn.

Sick of their never questioning surroundings,

They know some will never return.

However, they are assured by one comfort.

The welcoming fires of heaven beckon,

And each star shines as a friendly beacon.

Both mother and children are comfortingly assured.

The children because they know their turn is near.

However, mother's comfort is more passive than active.

Starhill knows that above all the finite stars,

Whose place is in the infinite,

Carefully watch over all.

However, especially over Starhill for within her great possibilities lie.

I just started playing a game called Archeage. This poem is eerily like the introduction to the game. Its not really exactly the same, but some of the same ideas are present. Anyways, I really enjoyed the story in this one. I think all of us have the desire to be part of some giant family, whether its as a single consciousness, or in the family of a deity, or being created by one, its all the same thing.
