The Dance

The Dance

A Poem by Courtney Hough

Music slowly plays,
As I danced alone.
Couples dancing,
As the mass has grown.

I'm in the middle,
As they encircle around.
Smiles on their faces,
My tears hit the ground.

Holding around my own body,
Closing my eyes.
Trying to picture "him",
Prince who heard my cries.

My eyes slowly open,
Thousands now surround.
While I am alone,
A princess not crowned.

Looking towards the sky,
Twirl and pick up my dress.
Head back, thoughts race,
My feet cannot rest.

I look towards the crowed,
As some couples part.
Going separate ways,
Breaking each other's hearts.

My feet start to stumble,
As I finally trip.
Falling to the ground,
Tears hit my lip.

The crowd stops to look,
Judging, starring, and laugh.
But soon they part,
Reviling a path.

A spotlight shinned,
The sound of footsteps follow.
Tears still falling,
Lump in my throat I cannot swallow.

Feet stood before me,
As my eyes glance.
Beholding none other than him,
Putting me into a trance.

He got to his knee,
Wiping my tear.
Looking into my eyes,
Beholding my fear.

He held out his hand,
Standing a powerful stance.
Smiling at me saying,
"May I have this dance?"

I nodded my head,
Touching his hand.
Feeling raced through my veins,
Emotions so grand!

The crowd stops to watch,
As his hand clings around my waist.
Looking deep into my soul,
My heart starts to race.

All those songs,
That were danced alone.
Was worth the wait,
To find home.

"I thought I'd dance alone."
I said holding him close.
"Never thought you'd come,
Imagination type of ghost."

He pushed my hair back,
"I've been looking for you.
The crowed was so heavy,
Had to fight a path through."

"Treasure is hard to find,
Because it is so rare.
That's why you were surrounded,
To see who actually cared."

He took my hand,
Led me away.
After dancing for hours,
We found each other today.

As he took me outside,
We were finally alone.
Hands on each others hearts,
He says, "I'm home."

Over flowing emotions,
One's I've missed.
Together forever,
Sealed with a kiss.
