Shadow

Shadow

A Poem by Courtney Hough

You’re just a shadow,

Memory in a distant dream.

Because when I needed you,

You weren’t there for me.

When there’s light,

Your right by my side.

But when it’s dark,

You run off and hide.

You left me,

And now my fear is known.

Surrounded by darkness,

Truly feeling alone.

Find me when you want,

When time works for you.

But leaving when you want,

You slowly withdrew.

I guess Shadow’s don’t care,

If they did they’d stay.

Not when it’s convenient,

But each and every day.

If I were but a shadow,

I’d follow you wherever.

You’d be my priority,

And your hearts endeavor.

Neither rain nor snow,

Light or dark.

I’d stay by your side,

Each journey to embark.

Yes, if I were your shadow,

I’d never leave, I guarantee.

But that’s the difference,

Between you and me.

The sun slowly rises,

As you walk my way.

Asking myself one question,

Should I run, should I stay?

This to me is a wonderful display of the emotion of unreciprocated love. Which, all can relate. N.
