Paper Wings

Paper Wings

A Poem by Lexi Nicole
"

Paper wings only take you so far.

"

Paper wings
Can’t fly as high
As I need to
In this life
I reach out
Longing to soar
But paper wings
Only take you so far

This is really lovely, especially touching to a reader and writer like me. There are many things it could mean - my favorite poems do appeal to the readers' perceptions - but one possibility that occurs to me is that we can't live in stories alone. There's value in living our real life. Another one: if "paper" symbolizes fragility, than we should do our best to better and strengthen ourselves rather than wallow in our weaknesses. I know a few people who do that, making their own lives more difficult. Your intent may be completely different, but I just wanted you to know how much one person can get out of something so brief and well-written. Congrats on the contest win!

I also have to say that the last two lines are my favorite. It's short and simple, yet beautiful until the end. Great job.
