la douleur exquise

la douleur exquise

A Poem by CA
"

My first go at poetry...freestyled...be gentle :)

"
It was just flirtation,
Never to go any further,
But then the game changed,
I was afraid you would hurt her.

But she would never know,
The only one you hurt was me,
It's my own fault for letting you in,
When I knew you & I would never be.

Introducing me to your children,
Joking they'd one day be mine,
Ignoring the pain you're causing me,
I wish you'd stop your lying.

An unrequited love,
That defines our relationship,
Perhaps love is too strong a word,
But I still taste you on my lips.

Though lips can forget as time drags on,
But my mind, it never shuts down,
I think of you & your lies constantly,
I feel my heart drown.

You're a thief I wish I could hate,
For stealing a woman's mind,
It's worse than taking her body,
Reality can be so unkind.

You say I'm your drug of choice,
Maybe rehab should be your thing,
Since all I notice lately,
Is if you're wearing the black or the diamond wedding ring.

When you truly care for someone,
It shouldn't have to be hidden,
There's nothing fair to anyone,
About a romance that's forbidden.

Please don't speak to me again,
Just look away and pass me by,
My strength will be broken,
If I have to look you in the eyes.

And stop pretending I'm a fool,
You only love the rush of not getting caught,
I know exactly what we are,
And more importantly...what we are not.

I'm definitely no pro, but needed a place to get thoughts off my chest. Thank you.
