Just Words

Just Words

A Poem by Erin
"

Hopefully Self-Explanatory

"

How words find their way out,

Are formed--

Traveling from heart and brain through the butterflies in my stomach.

Just words.

Just everything.

Just every shred of dignity in my body.
Shoulders hunched as if waiting for a blow,

To be crushed.
Limbs naked in the cold.
I swallow and

Words tumble as stones from my mouth.

Frozen hope shattering on the clouds on which I stand

The sound evading its icy prison in this escape.
Three words find their way to freedom.
I try and swallow them again.
Just words.
Just three words.
Just words.
Words that mean nothing unless you want them too.
Still,
Words I wish you’d say back.

God, how I've been there. I doubt there's any feeling more lonely than one-sided love. This poem speaks volumes to anyone who has been through this kind of thing, and it certainly spoke to me.
"Words tumble as stones from my mouth."
The previous line is the prime epitome of this poem. Just Words flows as though the author is painfully forcing the words out, but this is exactly how it feels to be in that kind of relationship. Very well done, Erin. Big kudos!!

The repetitive phrases illustrate the stuttering insecurity of not knowing if love will be returned. And I agree with Damian...your line "Words tumble as stones from my mouth." ...that line just takes the poem over the top.
Awesome.

Wow! Such a struggle are these 3 small words. What a captivating piece that shows just how painful they can be for the sender, and agonizing waiting for the return. Nice job!

Wonderful expression how hard it is to say 3 little words.. and wish that one that has your heart would say it back to you. Great Erin!
