I've Changed, People Say

I've Changed, People Say

A Poem by iamshadowine

I've changed, people say,

I've got attitude, instead of gratitude.

I've changed, people say,

My talks, my ways,

Everything they say, have changed.

I've changed, people say,

I've become rude,

I’ve got a strange behaviour,

They give me some tips to change my mood.

I’ve changed, people say,

I figured out what trust is,

My true friends don’t blame it.

I’ve changed, people say,

Never cared what others thought,

Because they don’t know the reason my soul caught.

But it killed me inside,

The words my best friend conveyed.

“Buddy, I heard from people that you changed,

Didn't believe them until today.

But now I say, you truly have changed.”

That killed me inside,

The words she uttered,

Broke my heart into pieces of stone cold ice.

It can be very hard when someone looks at us from the outside and judges. I guess, it all depends on if the speaker feels he/she has changed and why. Sometimes, the speaker has outgrown the person he/she used to be. Sometimes, the speaker is struggling with something. Either way, it is important to surround oneself with positive people who are helpful. Very nice thought provoking poem.

thank you so much
To each their own.
However, by the word "each" in this context, we will all show our true nature, whether others understand it or not.

People are strange creatures. They target one by saying he/she has changed or by doing other stuff. Instead of finding out why one has changed, people merely say he has changed and forget everything good about him. True friends are the ones who will try to find out the root cause of the change and try to get the derailed vehicle back on track. As to your poem, it is a fair piece. The comparison of the pieces of your heart to stone cold ice is commendable. I would also specifically praise your repetition of the line "I've changed, people say". Well-written. Keep writing.

thank you so much! :D
It's sad when people say "you've changed", they say it even if they have no idea who you really are but its even lonelier when the persons close to you said that to your face, they're supposed to be the ones who can understand what's happening. That's just what I thought when I read your poem... and I remember my friends, asking myself, "How many of them will stay?" Thanks for sharing your poem. Keep writing. :)

Your welcome. :)
I liked this insightful poem a lot. The change is understood yet not acknowledged till the end when a close friend reiterates what the world says, leading to much sadness...Its ok to change, its our privilege, as long as no one is seriously hurt and we remain true to ourselves. Great introspection.

thank you!!
The end kind of just doesn't feel like it belongs. Not in the way it was worded, anyway.
