To my dear friend

To my dear friend

A Poem by Somnath

You cleaned the food off my face when I was little.

You were the saving grace when I got punched by the bully in school.

You were the first one to render emotional support when my granny died.

You gave me the number of my crush in college.

Your soft touch was an anodyne in the glaring heat of the sun throughout my working life.

My mom would always ask whether you are with me; a positive would provide her relief.

I used to look up to you when my son used to come home all dirty after play.

You have been fed on blood, dirt, sweat and what not.

And today, you are once again fed on by my tears when my children left me alone.

You were there throughout my life. You will stay with me till I breath my last.

I thank you.
My dear handkerchief.
