Numb

Numb

A Poem by L.

Please do not remove yourself.

Don’t distance yourself

So that the spider’s webs of frost and ice

Enclose around your heart and lungs

And make clouds of cold escape your lips

Where letters and words should be

When your warm fingers

Entangle with mine, I hope

You keep the heat for your own

Because there are some things

That will never thaw.

Not with kisses or gentle words

And god knows, darling, I’ve tried.
