Unmasked

Unmasked

A Poem by Sushanth Shyamsundar
"

This one speaks of something that I feel we need a lot of in this world, Peace and Tolerance.

"

Perfectly poised on the top of a tower,

A lone ranger's eyes wander to the horizon,

Just as the night turns to day,

A tear rolls down his scarred cheek.

Who is this man, this masked warrior?

A warrior with no guns, nor knives nor weapons,

A leader, his head bowed, a sign to the masses,

To ease theor charge through rougher plains.

A man who is wise beyond his years,

No one can doubt, but none to follow,

For what he speaks can make no gain,

What he says will end all pain.

No wars to rage, no fights to spark,

Of what use is wealth and armies afar?

If there is peace this man will reign,

For his job is simple, but not so plain.

He is judge, juror, but not executioner,

Triumph of the spirit is what he proclaims,

Will lead the world to better days,

What's the use, no one is to blame.

Alas, this man, this peaceful warrior,

Sings to the tune of an age old ballad,

Not a soul to listen, not a place to speak,

He is banished, without constraint.

He is unmasked, his values untended,

His purity, clarity and wit subdued,

He will be risen, one day, once again,

The pure and mighty, will be umasked again.

Immediatly I am attracted to the wonderful, classic structure of this piece. It really makes for a powerful presentation and the word usage is incredible in relaying your thoughts of this "peaceful, warrior"...

Perfectly poised on the top of a tower,

A lone ranger's eyes wander to the horizon,

Just as the night turns to day,

A tear rolls down his scarred cheek.
--- I feel so strongly for the character in this piece...even though he has obviosly been a victim of physical -war and violence, he is still determined to have peaceful ends...and is suffering for this internal battle... I love this.

"He is judge, juror, but not executioner,

Triumph of the spirit is what he proclaims,

Will lead the world to better days,

What's the use, no one is to blame."
--I really love this line, mostly because he "leads his war", diplomatically, it seems. This I love and is a personal desire I have for the world.

Thank you for sharing :)
