Closer To You

Poem for my loving wife.

Staring at an empty page, the volume of white that spreads in front of me
like the miles of earth that cross between us two,
no end in sight to the void and loneliness inside.
they say that distance makes the heart grow fonder
but fonder still is the pain,
of the tears that show my longing for your voice.


Eclipsing the scars of my past
your love has shown me the way.
when nothing in my life was worth the risk,
you were the dream come true.


I find that all my thoughts are on you.
of your soft and warming skin,
your sweet and tender lips,
all caressing as we touch.


Your smile brightens up my day
and even the darkness seems to hide.
seeing your eyes gleaming at me once again
knowing your breath on my skin again
ill move these pages and fill them with my words
all to be a little closer to you.
