It Hurts

It Hurts

A Poem by Im His Daughter

It hurts when I say something to you

& you roll your eyes

& sigh as if I am an annoyance to you

It hurts when I talk to you

& you speak to me is a snarky tone

It hurts me when you purposely say things

to cause me to feel ashamed or embarrassed

I don't know why you do it

I don't know why you would want to hurt me

All I know is makes me feel bad

makes you look bad

I wish when I say something to you

that your eyes would light up

that you would smile & talk to me like

you are interested in what I have to say

That you would show an interest in me

As your mother

I wish I never had to feel that you enjoy it

I wish you didn't utter a single bad word

or look at me with distain in your eyes

I wish it didn't make you look bad

& make me feel disappointed

that you choose to behave

opposite of the way I raised to you be
