with the weight of grief That crashes with the force of a tsunami Wave after wave of intense feelings Of loss Of sadness Of longing It’s difficult to breathe When in the clutches of this faceless demon Focus is absent when overwhelmed with this misery Grasping at straws and telling one’s self this will pass The malady has lingered much too long When will my wound heal When will my heart stop aching When will I be myself again Practicing self-care and compassion has not helped I’m told that one can’t hurry grief, that it’s a
process Yet this process has loitered in the shadows I’m no longer myself
