The Jungle: Buyer Beware

The Jungle: Buyer Beware

A Poem by insanity
"

This is pretty critical of our current state of affairs so if you're a fan of unrestricted capitalism then perhaps this is not the best read for you.

"

I can hear the talk

Out on the sidewalk

Words are hurled about

As comers and goers shout

Buyer beware

It's a jungle out there

Don't get in over your head

That's what the wise man said

I can still hear what they say

The words just won't go away

Don't save for a rainy day

Invest in us today
Why save for retirement

When you can give it to the government

You'll have never-ending prosperity

We're the nation's biggest charity

But it's just a passing topic of debate

As the dollar continues to inflate

No one begins to wonder

Why we even invested in this blunder

We'll buy out all takers

We even bought the auto-makers

We bailed out the banks

But I say no thanks

There's no room for frivolity

When we get top quality

From factories overseas

But it put's the consumer at ease

When they save that extra dime

But it will come back around in due time

One day we'll hit that fiscal wall

Then the house of cards will surely fall

When you build with a sure foundation

You create a stronger nation

Instead you continue to borrow

Further burdening the generations of tomorrow

As the building begins to crumble

You become a little more humble

But since when has that stopped your zeal

To lie, cheat and steal

You have no qualms

When you drop the bombs

But when it's time to negotiate

You say hurry up and wait

Who needs diplomats

When you've got democrats

Let's just dig in a little more

We're just mongering a little war

With a crooked smile

They infiltrate your radio dial

And pollute the airwaves

To recruit more slaves

Turn on the television set

Log onto the internet

It's all there for you to peruse

So you can absorb the biased news

Here come the republicans

With their master plans

To cure all of society's ills

As more blood spills

They ignore the death tolls

Until we go to the polls

To bring about the changing of the tides

And finally remove the thorn from our sides

The Bush is burning

As the world is still churning

From the mess you made

We all were so deftly played

For you caused our downfall

All started by a street that was formerly a Wall

With lending practices so loose

We've tied our own noose

As we make our way to the gallows

We fall and drown in the shallows

Don't you worry folks

Global warming was just a hoax

It's no wonder we're swimming laps

When we've melted the ice caps

But it's a fight we've conceded

When scientists' warnings weren't heeded

The government says don't worry

We'll get this cleaned up in a hurry

Nobody cares about a little polluted air

When you've got more wars to declare

Stop waving those lighters

And get back to fueling our jet fighters

When you're feeling a bit bombastic
Just remember supporting peace is a futile tactic

Like a bull in a china shop
You'll never stop

As you shout into the microphone

In such a harsh tone

Go ahead and surrender

Please put your brain in the blender

Mix up your feelings and thoughts

Until it atrophies and rots

Who needs partisan politics

When you've got mind tricks

No need to twist our arms

We'll gladly relinquish our farms

They're just just idle play things

Now we can make more office buildings

When you've got no corporate culpability

Who needs self-sustainability

When fiction is taken as fact

We lose all tact

As red, white, blue coalesce

Lines blur to form a giant purple mess

Of ambiguity and indecision

It's all part of our vision

Say those pushing bill after bill

High upon the hill

The oracles say it's pretty bleak

Of the end we do not speak

For we'd much rather stay here

And cower in fear

Instead of trying to change our fate

We lie here in wait

For the coming of a messiah

As the stakes grow higher

I hang my head in shame

We're all to blame

We've fed into the system

Now we can't resist them

They love to lead us on

Until all hope for the future is gone

The burden grows heavier by the day

But it's not too late to make this all go away

We'll only get ourselves off the brink
When we start to think

And not believe all we see and hear

When we stop living our lives in fear

When we don't let politicians rule our lives

When our parents don't choose our wives

Unfortunately, you'll have to wait until I write the sequel

To realize that all are not created equal
