The Headless Horseman

The Headless Horseman

A Poem by insanity
"

I decided to take a little bit of creative license on the whole Sleepy Hollow story :)

"

I've got a secret

Wouldn't you like to know

But I think I'll keep it

Where winds do not blow

I won't say where it's buried

Just so you know

It was a fortnight carried

Before hidden six below

A ferocious flurry

Of frighteningly dressed things

Has caused a few to worry

What tomorrow brings

Why is this kept secret

Strange soothsayers ask

Why is it that he keeps it
Behind a jack-o-lantern mask

Headless crosses

For headless corpses

Headless bosses

For headless horses

The hollow is awful sleepy

Ichabod knows my secret

As the night's events get creepy

Will he lose his head or keep it?

Six feet under

Three foot wide

People above wonder

What's exactly inside

The unmarked grave

Dare they be bold

Dare they be brave

What tragedy will it hold?

Is there a body

Have they found my secret?

My cover-up was shoddy

But that's how I'll keep it

They'll never know it was me

Who killed poor Ichabod
They just turn and see

My brilliant facade

I laugh as I ride into the black

The hollow is no longer sleepy

I laugh again as I look back

The people's eyes get weepy

Ichabod Crane is no more

The hollow will never be the same

For it was such a bore before
Now they'll forever know my name
