Earth

Earth

A Poem by Inugal96

Heaven is cannibalistic;
it devours exclusively those that are akin to it.
Hell is a ghastly place
welcoming anyone in with it's
nondiscriminatory arms.
For this reason alone I have never been a religious person but
you seem to have been born from these
warring domiciles,
like the babe of star-crossed lovers.
You were created from
heaven's impulse
and hell's luring temptation.

It’s just a tenant of human nature to be afraid of the Unknown to such a degree that we begin to grab at straws whereby we invent magic rituals meant to give us power over our greatest fear. “Necessity is the mother of invention.” Ritual’s have staying power because they must be done in exactly the same way each and every time, and then passed on to future generations of fearful minions who believe in their magic power.

Congrats on winning the "Poetry!" contest :) I loved this piece. It was beautifully executed, wonderful usage of personification, and it was short and sweet.

Very nicely written. I share the sentiment of being non religious, mostly from personal experiences. It's baffling to see people give their lives for beliefs that make no absolute sense.
