So much more

So much more

A Poem by Jack...
"

If only a photograph could see

"

So much more

It was merely a picture

sitting on a lighted shelf, above words that I read,

when new was new and improved hadn’t been discovered yet.

Infatuated I thought, why else would it be there,

this face staring at me, did it know

that I would come here, did it sense that I would see

A stranger, the new kid on the block, knocking on the door

Would I fit in, could I fit in…

why would I fit in, I have never fit in before

Still I felt it, the touch of not knowing,

the breath of my own wisdom, which on occasion

had let me down more than it had solidified my mind

I pecked, like an old hen at the dirt hoping for

a candied seed, a morsel of truth from the hand that I desire,

soft yet distant, olive skin of fragrant perfume

That pose, like a grandmother thinking, oh was she thinking

Perhaps contemplating a recipe for something sweet,

only to paint the minds of others with her form

I paced the floor, raking the keyboard with uncertainty

Placed a few envelopes under the door and waited,

scared to death, but living in a dream

I watched as shadows moved in the cracks,

light changed places with reality,

melodic in patterns of fine tapestry dreams

I gaze once more upon this gift, smiling on me

from somewhere beyond the  seams,

stitched along a sheltered eastern shore

My knees found the worn carpet of pacing,

frayed threads reacting to the sun light,

finding the breeze of my thoughts in scattered wishes on the sill

No voice, no touch, only a painted smile, a striking pose,

still it spoke to me…in beautiful words

It was merely a picture, yet it was so much more

this is perhaps my favorite part. There is always that part that speaks to me and this is it. Wonderfully penned. I have a picture addiction anyway.

Great write. What I like here is the way you bare your soul, the greatest of gifts, but behave as though it just a trifle. Makes the piece very endearing. Lovely rhythm, too.

Awesome, I love the daydream effect you have employed here. A seemingly simple object giving inspiration to many thoughts and lives lived within the fantasy, seemingly simple...but so much more. Right on, Jack I like being taken on a voyage and you have shown me a fine vacation.

You are special, Jack...and I also cherish our friendship.
Oh, this was fantastic, Jack. Your words are like a train...they always take me on the most fascinating journies. I love to "watch" your stories unfold in poetic form, and you just exude lavish language. Great wording and phrasing, and the flow was fantastic.

That pose, like a grandmother thinking, oh was she thinking
Perhaps contemplating a recipe for something sweet,
only to paint the minds of others with her form -- loved these lines...

Also, the last stanza, last line...brilliant.

:) Always a pleasure.
Your anxious visitation to the door was a high spot for me. I loved the imagination your showed in the comparisons. "That pose, like a grandmother thinking", is a thought we can all understand well yet it will make the poem feel personal to each of us. It was kind of like letting the reader have a place to sign there name and take this poem home.
One of my favorite poems from you Jack. I like it when you delve beyond the garden of amore. A beautiful exploration of art.
