Face the fall

Face the fall

A Poem by Jack...

Face the fall

Standing to fight

in the heart of the city

The jungles of asphalt

where neon flashes evil

as sidewalk dwellers

window shop hate

and find peace labeled “Not for sale”

I cling to my beliefs

in lamp post graffiti

Spray painted wishes

fading in color

and store owner nightmares,

defacing the brick walls

surrounding my very existence

Fear falls in pamphlet raindrops,

pages scattered

beyond the welcome mats

of big box politicians

in paisley ties

and sharp creased slacks,

shaking hands and scamming votes

Promises made

circled in cigar smoke and cheap wine,

fall on unsuspecting ears as truth

until the “sorry we’re closed” signs

spin in favor of loss…

opening for business

to the throngs of the needy

I see their eyes, hollow,

faltering of sorrow as worry

becomes the next day’s problem

Reaching into my pocket I retrieve

the multi-colored wings you gave me…just in case

and I fly to be with you

Unable to face the fall…of humanity

A vivid reality piece, well crafted.

Fear falls in pamphlet raindrops...- propaganda abounds, and we are blind to its effect on our souls...

In spite of the depressing truth you express here, Jack, I am glad to see some hope. Sometimes someone else's wings are all we have to keep us from falling ourselves...

Thanks Rita. There is so much just completely out of control in this world and we seem to always be .. read more
Humanity falls for the most ridiculous reasons. "Not for sale." "Sorry we're closed." So stark...and yet the effect it has on people is forgotten.

I love the multi-colored wings reference. Hard to watch... Wish I had a pair.

Thanks you so very much Diana. Check in your pocket, what you find just might surprise you. :)
You have painted a bleak picture of humanity in all its horribleness. All those politicians live in the country I expect.

Thanks so very much my friend.
So sad yet so romantic. A lot of feelings in this concrete jungle and where love is the only path and hope from all the materialism...Touching Jack...:).............
