In whatever way

In whatever way

A Poem by Jack...

In whatever way

We all breathe the same

In whatever way we choose

Dancing to the beats

Of drummers, different in most cases

But breathe just the same

Sometimes we talk

Different mouths, different voices

Still it can ring badly on another’s ears

Complaining, questioning, whining

When all we want is to be understood

Often we fall, hard to the ground

Hardly at all to those passing by

Staring at this writhing body

On the sidewalk of broken dreams

Just waiting to be kicked once more

At times we love

Perhaps too much it seems

Different hearts, different beats, different drummers (again)

Brandishing hope as that marching band

With the new drum major breaks our will

Then we die

Not unlike other’s before us

Lying in a wooden box

Mourners stare exhaling sadly or happily

As they still breathe…in whatever way they choose

Thanks Sunshine. Stepping over boundaries now and again.
Please don't be offended when I tell you, I could hear Andy Rooney narrating this fine poem...

~time well spent~ the poem not the wire y trim...
This is a very wise poem, Jack. Everyone is so busy listening to his or her own drummer that he really doesn't have the time to listen to those of others. Your poetry is always so sincere and heart-felt, and I enjoy reading it very much.

Quite an emotional read and write I am sure. This for me was sad my friend ~ Those two lines hit me the hardest though... I'd never walk by if one of my friends were down, and you know that. Maybe I would be the only one to stop and make sure they were okay but I am sure there are others who would, maybe we just don't know it yet...

I loved it my friend, was an emotional read however.

Thanks so very much my friend. Sometimes the darkness becomes overwhelming.
It's certainly an awe inspiring read, you don't know to write any other, but it's really profoundly deep and full of pathos Jack...this is not romantic Jack by any stretch of the imagination, still love it, it just doesn't make it sigh in joy, only heavily coming from a darkly colored place of broken dreams.

Thanks so much Levi.
Awesome, Jack. It is brought around full circle..."ring badly on another's ears..." reminds me of being on F/B the other day...a point made and yet one whiner...a point made in humor, and one could not see the humor of everydayness...(guess that is not a word) Respect...this message has a theme of respect...respect the different, the ugly, the hero, the underdog (Mary Travers once said something like that) Thank you for the write.
