Friendship

Friendship

A Poem by Matt Stewart

The joy of friendship, what a joy it is!

To be understood, to be loved seems to be the essence of existence.

Loyal friends are priceless treasures of God in times of happiness and desperation;

A hand to hold to keep from drowning, a laugh to move the days quickly by.

In times of hardship they are an anchor, in times of joy a source of happiness.

To love, to encourage, to inspire, to listen, to understand,

This is what I’ve found it means to be a friend.

It has been said to love another person is to see the face of God;

I find this evident when with companions who always seem to understand.

In the darkest moments of this life, they take the form of relief and comfort,

In the joyous moments they are a spring of life and laughter.

A life without friendship is a sad one indeed;

A life without loyalty to another is no life at all.

God has intercourse several lives that blessings may come from it,

And who knows where all this road goes?

Let me rest assure and comforted in the knowledge there are those who listen,

Let me be encouraged by the fact there are those who live to love.

Let not one day pass by that I forget, lest I lose the greatest of treasure.

I simply say ‘thank you’ to those who stand by me,

Although those words could never sum up enough.
